The cover is a plastic attachment that fits over the back of the calculator, or can be fit over the front covering the buttons. I am currently using it for a class in Financial Risk Management and Finance and it makes calculations easy. I took a finance class last semester at my university. Yes, I can say this is the best calculator to use for finance-related computations, there are many functions and requires only minimal key presses to execute. It is also much more user-friendly as HP 12 C uses reverse polish notation and the BA Plus Pro uses algebraic notation. So I would guess that if you buy a new one, you'll get an owner's manual.
